Resumen

Over the last twenty years, the work of Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra has been peppered with different instances of a relationship with ports. The aim of this article is to discuss some specific aspects of this relationship under three epigraphs.  Door-Port: [n Spanish, lhe word port (puerto) is a masculinised version of the word for door (puerta). A port is a thoroughfare, a point through which lo pass. In the case of the Navigation Pavilion in Seville lhe architect explicitly avoids the presence of the building as a façade. The most fluvial aspect of the pavilion would doubtless be one way of passing through it, via the heritage of compasses and spatial sequences of the past, forcing the visitor to leave the city-island and go down to the river, which once more becomes part of the citys imaginary. Port-Transit: To talk about architecture and port is always to talk about passage and exchange. At the Ayamonte Port Authority the proposal creates public space as a commitment to the diverse groups that could occupy it. A common space that is a true manifestation of the different relationships between the elements that come into play, mutual responses between the singularities of the street, the buildings, the accesses and the pavements. Port-Flesh: If the contemporary practice tends to hide the objectual condition of architecture and transform it into landscape, the architecture of Vázquez Consuegra will continue to bet on an intense objectuality. Vigos operation is closely tied to the infrastructure entailed by the proposed operation, but as is to be expected, for the public, a body should also be adorned for its presentation in society. The modified infrastructure will have a series of formal episodes that concrete it, something to constitute an adornment rather than a modification.
